The Cornish Surfer Book Design
Coffee-Table Book Design for a Cornish Lifestyle Brand
As part of our ongoing work with The Cornish Surfer, we were asked to design a coffee-table book showcasing the landscape and portrait photography of Matt Keeble. The aim was to give the photography plenty of room to make an impact while creating a publication that still felt unmistakably part of The Cornish Surfer brand.
Letting the Photography Lead
The imagery was at the heart of the book, so the layouts were designed to present it clearly and confidently. Rather than competing with the photographs, the typography and graphic elements provide structure and allow the changing landscapes, portraits and details to take centre stage.
Bringing the Brand into Print
Elements from The Cornish Surfer’s wider visual identity were carried through the publication, including the familiar wave pattern across the endpapers and chapter headings. Smaller surfer and wave motifs were also used alongside the text, adding recognisable brand details without overwhelming the photography.
The finished book became another way for an established visual identity to work beyond individual products, bringing photography, print and branding together in one coherent piece.
