More Than Mere Blinds
We were recently considering blinds for our sunny new office. We chose some lovely wide white slats, but often the issue with blinds is that the sun doesn’t really play ball! So when I found this interactive concept for blinds by designer and goldsmith Kia Utzon-Frank I thought, how clever. Still in the concept stage, Kia has created KUFTwist blinds which rethinks the vertical blind concept all together. She intends to make her designs commercial and even automatic, controlled by an app.

The KUFTwist blind uses a series of combs that twist the vertical material as you move them up and down, allowing more flexibility with blocking the light. Apart from practical appeal, these blinds are like an installation, a beautiful work of art that adorns a possibly drab window.

Kia has collaborated with textile designer Fay McCaul to stunning effect. I look forward to seeing what else comes from this interesting project.
