Flowers Frozen in Ice

23rd September 2021

‘Extreme Florist’ might be a good way to describe Azuma Makoto, he blurs the lines between art and floristry challenging our perceptions by his bouquet’s context.

Previously suspending plants in space or submerging them in water, but the one that caught my eye today is ‘Frozen Flowers’. Actually from back in 2018, Makoto took blooms from all over the world in the most vibrant shades to the Notsuke Peninsula in Hokkaido and drenched his creation in water. The resulting sculpture is an icicle-encrusted colourful cascade, a surprise feature of a bare landscape.
