Beauty in the Mundane
22nd January 2021
I love it when someone captures a moment that we would normally overlook and preserves it in a photograph or a painting, causing us to pause and appreciate. When I was doing my art foundation in Plymouth I remember a project I did set in a laundrette, photographing the glossy chrome and putty machines. I even wrote a poem! These memories came flooding back when I saw artist Caitlyn Murphy and her paintings of a dry cleaners.

She captures with a lightness of touch the plastic covers and and till recipes. They reveal a more beautiful side to a place we are unlikely to pause and consider. Lovely.
