An Alternative to Tourist High-Rises

24th March 2021

An interesting alternative to the usual high-rise holiday developments, these colourful dome buildings are home to tourist and local alike. The 200 dwellings can be found on the island of Hormuz overlooking the Persian Gulf. ZAV Architects wanted to encourage tourists to the area without compromising the landscape.

Colourful dome houses and holiday accommodation in the Persian Gulf

This style of building was the brain-child of Iranian Nader Khalil, they are known as Superadobe. The buildings combine the ancient practice of earth architecture but also allow the structures to be safe by modern building standards for things such as earthquakes. Plus the construction methods allow the local community to be part of the process. Lovely. See more at Eclectic Trends.
