Pocket Map Design for Padstow Harbour

Padstow Harbour Commissioners asked us to create a practical fold-out map for visitors and boat users exploring Padstow Harbour and the Camel Estuary.

The map needed to bring together detailed harbour information in a format that would remain clear, compact and easy to use. This included water speed limits and local bylaws, alongside an illustrated overview of the harbour.

We developed a simplified vector map that makes the main information easy to scan without losing the character of the setting. Colour, typography and illustration establish a clear hierarchy, while the concertina fold allows the map to open out for reference and close down to a convenient pocket size.

Because it was intended for repeated use around the water, the finished map was printed on durable, splash-proof card. The format is lightweight and portable, but robust enough to be handled throughout a visit or kept aboard a boat.

The result is a useful piece of public information that combines careful information design, illustration and print production. It is a good example of how we turn complex material into something practical, engaging and straightforward to navigate.
