A characterful online shop for a growing business
Bertrum Muffetts began as a small creative business making wonderfully characterful handmade creations. As demand grew, our client needed a simple ecommerce website that would make the products easy to browse and buy without losing the warmth and personality that made the business distinctive.
Rather than creating a conventional online shop that felt stark or overly polished, we wanted the website to feel as though it belonged in the same world as Bertrum and his friends. The result is a responsive single page website and shop with a deliberately handmade, slightly vintage character.
Illustration and ecommerce working together
Emma illustrated Bertrum and the other characters especially for the website, while hand drawn lettering and vintage fabric textures helped give the design its softer, more personal feel.
Behind that characterful appearance is a straightforward online shop that allows customers to buy the handmade creations easily and gives our client a practical way to manage and update the products herself.
The project shows how ecommerce does not have to mean sacrificing individuality. The shop, illustration and visual identity all work together, creating something useful for customers while still feeling unmistakably like the business behind it.
